Composite Bonding

Composite bonding (also known as tooth bonding or dental bonding) offers a solution for minor damage or gaps in teeth. Composite bonding can help you achieve a smile you’re happier with without causing damage to your teeth.

Bonding is usually used for filling chips, fractures or gaps between teeth, or for fixing discolouration. A composite resin is attached to a tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, so it will appear as though it is a natural part of the tooth.

The tooth is prepared by slightly roughening the surface, the resin is then moulded to desired shape and hardened using a UV light, before a final shaping by the dentist to match the rest of your teeth.

What are the advantages?

The advantage of composite bonding is that it is a fast and effective way to fix minor cosmetic issues. One of the main advantages is that it is a non-invasive treatment. Popular alternatives such as crowns and veneers involve part of the tooth being removed to prepare for treatment, with composite bonding, the tooth remains intact.

After Care

Composite bonding can last for years. Your dentist will recommend that you maintain good oral health by brushing your teeth and seeing a dental therapist regularly. Maintaining good oral health will help prevent any staining.
