Composite Bonding

Composite bonding (also known as tooth bonding or dental bonding) offers a solution for minor damage or gaps in teeth. Composite bonding can help you achieve a smile you’re happier with without causing damage to your teeth. Bonding is usually used for filling chips, fractures or gaps between teeth, or for fixing discolouration.

What is Composite Bonding?

A composite resin is attached to a tooth and shaped to restore its original appearance. The colour of the resin is matched to your teeth, so it will appear as though it is a natural part of the tooth.

The tooth is prepared by slightly roughening the surface, the resin is then moulded to desired shape and hardened using a UV light, before a final shaping by the dentist to match the rest of your teeth.

Whitening is often done prior to composite bonding so that the composite placed is matched to a brighter, whiter smile.

Frequently Asked Question's

What are the advantages?

The advantage of composite bonding is that it is a fast and effective way to fix minor cosmetic issues. One of the main advantages is that it is a non-invasive treatment. Popular alternatives such as crowns and veneers involve part of the tooth being removed to prepare for treatment, with composite bonding, the tooth remains intact.

What about whitening?

Bonding can help with staining in teeth to create a brighter, whiter smile. Your dentist would recommend any teeth whitening is done prior to treatment so that the resin selected will match your teeth colour. Composite bonding cannot be altered by teeth whitening; therefore, we always recommend whitening your teeth until you get to your preferred shade.

After Care

Composite bonding can last for years. Your dentist will recommend that you maintain good oral health by brushing your teeth and seeing a dental therapist regularly. Maintaining good oral health will help prevent any staining.

Composite bonding is not as strong as a normal tooth and can chip. Your dentist can fix any chips relatively easily. Bonding comes with a 3 month guarantee.

How much does it cost?
